Reader Stories: Men and Their Cats

From Christine Gonyea

 Ryan and Romulus

Ryan and Romulus read a book together.

Names of the guy and his cat(s) (First name is fine)

Ryan and his kitty Romulus.

What do you (he) most admire about your cat?

He's easy to get along with and like to follow us anywhere. He has a very distinctive curled tail that looks like a pug-dog's tail.

Describe any daily routines you (he) and your cat share

Every evening, they wait in the kitchen and stare at us until somebody opens a can of cat food for them.

What I Did:

Ryan was ready for the responsibility of a pet so we answered an ad in the newspaper.

How I Did It:

We drove across town and found the address in the newspaper ad. The kitties were in the house playing with the family's two dogs so we knew they'd fit into our own household of two dogs. There were two black and white tuxedo kitties left and we couldn't decide which one to take home so we adopted both of them. It wasn't until we got them home and took them out of the carrier that we noticed one of them had a curly tail! It's full of left-hand kinks and when put all together, it curls over his back like a pug-dog. Since they were brothers, Ryan named them Romulus and Remus after the Romulan plantes of Star Trek fame.

Lessons Learned

  • How it feels to have someone who is totally dependent on your for their daily dare.
  • Having two kittens together is a great way to have them because they can play with each other as well as play with you.

Franny Syufy, Cats Guide, says:

Christine is a longtime family friend, and I've (by proxy) watched Ryan grow from a youngster to a college student. His latest picture (with Remus) appears in the Cat Men Picture Gallery. Thanks, Christine!
