10 Reasons Why Two Kittens Are Better Than One

Thursday April 6, 2006
The decision to adopt a kitten is an exciting event, but not to be entered into lightly. Kittens require an enormous amount of care, which, of course, is compensated by the extreme pleasure of watching them grow and develop. Sometimes, it is better to adopt two kittens, whether this is your first cat or an addition to a feline family.

I put the challenge to my forum members to explain why two kittens are better than one. They came up with some very solid and creative arguments for two kittens.

We had very specific reasons for adopting Jaspurr and Joey together (pictured here). Learn more about the advantages of adopting two kittens with this pictorial article.

Hi, I am thinking about getting a friend for Meescha our, about, 2year old cat. We have three dogs and they all get along but does she need feline company also?

Kitties are social animals and need companionship. Not for a second do I believe kitties to be so aloof that they prefer to be alone. I think the whole aloof thing is a myth for most cats. Just watch two kittens or even two adult cats playing and you can see what a cat raised alone is missing out on. When it’s cold they snuggle so sweetly together. We have 5 house cats and take care of about 35 outdoor cats, so over the last few years I’ve been watching them interact and believe that most kitties like being with their own kind. I have found that taking care of two kittens is as easy as taking care of one - - maybe easier because they keep each other company.

I own eight felines, of which 7 are under the age of 4. There has been at least one kitten, usually two, at any given time. Right now, my youngest is 6 months old, Next oldest is fifteen months old. As far as I am concerned, as long as you are physically and financially able to care for another cat, another kitten is always a plus in my multi-cat household. Puts a little spice in everyone’s life. (Incidentally, I promised my family that I will stop adopting or they will have me committed.)
