Several years ago the About.com cats forum members were discussing the fact that cats should come with instructions. After all, most of us wouldn't invest in a new computer without consulting a user's manual, would we? Why would anyone want to adopt a cat without an iota of knowledge about its care and feeding?
At the time, Gary Loewenthal was the Host for the forum. He and I put our heads together and came up with the idea of "Shelter Sheets," a collection of one-page printable documents that animal shelters, cat shelters, and other humane groups could download and print. A sort of "Owners' Manual for Cats." "How to Make Your House a Home for Your Cat" is one of these shelter sheets. It offers a breakdown of all those things a cat need to make your cat want to stay with you forever.
