I love my readers' content because it is comprised of true stories written from the heart. One of the nicest stories I've read for a long time comes from the Intelligent Cats feature on my site. Guest, RonnieVG wrote:

I was a MSW student, Bronx, NY. One AM, a box of 4 NEWBORN kittens in the office. Been there overnight, found in underground garage in a box with their young mother. Kittens were going to a shelter without Mum, as she was "vicious." I did not think so. She was protecting her babies. Mum had stayed overnight in the garage howling for her kittens. I called my daughter, a 4 hr drive away. She would take kittens & mother. Now to catch Mum in the garage! She was frantic for her missing kittens, not going to leave! It took 3 hours but I got Mum in a box. Put her in my car with kittens in another box & took off. What a ruckus! Mum trying to get to babies, kittens to Mum. Got to my daughter's. Put kittens in small room for 1/2 hour. I stayed. Then brought in Mom cat. She rushed to her babies, licked all over, nursed. JOY! I lay on mattress across the room. One hour. later, all kittiies content, quiet. Then mother cat slowly approached me. She put her paw on my arm, purred, then went back to her kittens. Mum had said, "Thank You."

Awesome!!! Proof AGAIN that animals are NOT stupid. When will the rest of the planet figure that out?

I heartily agree with you, animalangel1. They are not only not stupid, but they can feel real emotions, including gratitude.

Absolutely!!! I can’t understand why it’s taking the rest of the world to realize that if they just consider on a medical/scientific level (even if they don’t LIKE animals) – that animals have the same makeup that we do! Whatever WE can feel – THEY can feel, whether it be physical or emotional. They are just furrier versions of US – just as we used to be if you look back at how and where we came from. I just don’t understand why it’s taking so long for the light bulbs to light up……. aren’t we supposed to be smarter than that by now?

Oh…. and one more thing to add: WILD animals feel too…. I personally “rescued” two baby raccoons a few years back. The mother had been killed in the road. I brought them home and put them in a box (they had not yet even been weaned and were STARVING). One was rather lethargic and not responding well to my attempts to feed “her” or “him”…. the other just refused but was far more energetic I guess is the best to describe it. Anyway, left them in the box with stuff to keep them warm overnight. Wasn’t sure about that weaker one… but getting ready for work at 7 a.m. I knew. I heard SCREAMING/wailing, crying from the porch. I went out and found the one I was worried about had died and was still warm. The other – CRYING because SHE just lost her only other surviving relative. She completely understood her loss and was responding to it. I took the dead raccoon out and replaced her with a ticking alarm clock and a stuffed animal and had to leave for work. After I got back that day with all the necessary “equipment”, the surviving raccoon finally started feeding. She stayed with us for about 6 months and had imprinted me as her mother. She followed me EVERYWHERE and just clung to me for the longest time. Sadly, she ran off (but she was healthy and happy so it’s not like she died or anything). I just really miss her. Thankfully, I have many photos to remind me of the raccoon I once referred to as “Baby” (and MY baby!).
