10 Reasons Why Two Kittens Are Better Than One

By , About.com GuideFebruary 19, 2012

Follow me on:

In 2002, littermates Jaspurr and Joey came into my home and my heart. I had searched for several months for two kittens, and one of them had to be red. With the passing of our beloved Shannon in July of 2001, it was the first time since our marriage that we had not had at least one "Sunshine Boy." Because our remaining cat, Bubba, was a very spoiled senior cat, it took a lot of convincing before my husband would agree to the possibility. I finally convinced him that with two kittens, they could keep each other company, and Bubba would not feel threatened or annoyed.

Six months later, we welcomed Jaspurr and Joey into our family, and it worked out even better than I had thought. Bubba actually embraced both kittens immediately, and even groomed Jaspurr to follow him as alpha cat.

That was only one of the 10 reasons why two kittens are better than one. If you're one of those diehards who need more proof, see the Two Kittens Picture Gallery.

My two kittens will be 10 years tomorrow, February 20th, so please join me then for a Happy Birthday party for Jaspurr and Joey.

Absolutely! Two kittens means more fun and less work. Just think about a tiny little baby kitten coming into a new home. Having a friend makes everything easier!

The best thing that I ever did was add another kitten to our family. I adopted my first kitten and then in two weeks went back to the same shelter and adopted my second. They are best friends, and I love them both. I couldn’t imagine life without them. They are the ones who really rescued me.

A BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY to both Jaspurr and Joey! I too believe in having multiples, often littermates or two close to the same age to clown around with and keep each other company. And that works with both cats and dogs.

I agree two kittens are better and they do keep each other company. Lots of fun to watch. Happy 10th Birthday to Jaspurr and Joey and I hope Bubba is still happy with them.

I agree my daughter got two litter mates, one was tabby and the other ginger, both boys and they live very happily together. After I lost my black and white cat to a car just over 10 years ago my husband went to the rescue centre and came back with 2 black kittens, 1 was 20 weeks old and the other 17 weeks but they acted like brothers even though there was a very big size difference. The eldest has his birthday at the end of June, sadly the small one disappeared 3 years ago, they had both been playing in the garden and that was the last we saw of Lynx. They were both microchipped and even though everyone in the village knew him there was never any sign of him again. We do have 2 cats again as nearly 2 years ago a female calico turned up on our doorstep in a very poor state, we took her in nursed her to health had her microchipped and she is part of our family now and Sooty treats her with respect and they both get on together very well. I love my cats.

Happy birthday to them! Absolutely, when there is a senior (or two, as in our case) two kittens are a necessity. We fell in love with Oliver and he drove our two old girls crazy……until we brought Figaro home. Now they are best buddies, playing and sleeping together. And Emma and Puddy are left to be their normal, aloof, keep-to-themselves cats in peace.

Whenever someone asks about getting a kitten or cat I always tell them that they only come in pairs.

I totally agree! I got my two Siamese sisters when they were just under 5 months old, when my daughter’s sister-in-law decided she didn’t want them. My Jake had recently passed at just under afe 19. Asia and India are fun, bright, adorable and two are better than one!

Happy Birthday to Jaspurr and Joey!

When I lost my beautiful Picasso last spring, I adopted my Mia kitten right away, and boy was she mischevious! Not too long afterward, I found the cutest little Daisy kitten, and adopted her too. Mia found herself in much less mischief and the two are wonderful friends!

We have two sisters who were born last Aug. 7th, Bootsey with 7 claws on each foot, she is black and white. Snickers, her sister is a calico. Their bigger brother Little Joe. a black and white, is going to be 10 months March 17th. We raised him from 1 week and a half, with a bottle and boy is he big now. Then last of all in the cats there is dear Simba who is 12. We took him in as he was abandoned by his family but this is his forever home. We also have a shih tzu, Dusty who will be 3 and he plays with the 3 younger cats. We had other pets over a year ago but lost them in a fire Dec. 11/10. They are forever in our hearts. We also have two birds and 6 fish, that is our family.

We adopted two kittens last summer after we put a beloved 4-year old cat to sleep due to chronic urinary tract infections. My older cat, Pippin, was very lonely after Winky was gone and I knew he needed some companionship, but worried about getting one kitten. He was not too happy about Calvin and Hobbes at first, but after he adapted to them they are all great buddies now. The kittens are almost full grown now (7 months) and have brought so much life and excitement – and a little bit of trouble like their namesakes – to our home! I LOVE cats!!!

I am a foster kitten mom in Durban South Africa – I have hand reared and homed about 40 kittens over the past 5 years they have all given me so much love and joy seeing them grow from as young as 1 day old until 8 weeks when the go to their forever home- it breaks my heart to let them go as I think no one can love them as much as I do but I need to make space for the next needy litter – if only people were responsible and sterilised the cats. I have 6 of my own cats all rescued kittens that have crept very deep in my heart they all have their own personalities and are loved very much and give us so much pleasure and take up so much space on our bed at night I could imagine life without my fur babies
