One of my favorite parts of the holidays has always been displaying forests of poinsettias on my fireplace, but since I've learned these colorful plants may be hazardous to cats, I hang them from our balcony instead. Actually, poinsettias are not as toxic as previously thought, except for one variety native to Hawaii. A Cornell veterinaran says “at worst [poinsettia] will cause irritation of the mouth, excess salivation and perhaps vomiting.
I’d still be very careful with poinsettias, especially around kittens. But then, I’ve always been of the “better safe than sorry” mentality.”
Cats love to chew plants, so if you have any on this list, it's best to display them in a way that keeps them (and your cats) out of harm's way.

What exactly happens when a kitten chews on a pointsettia? What are the outcomes of this?

My husband brings the Dusty Miller in the house for the winter and my cat likes to treat it as her own buffet, we chase her when we catch her, but I need to know if this is harmful to her?
I have a kitten and i told my dad that we gotta put the poinsettas somewhere they wont get them but he said he’s not so sure that they’re toxic. are YOU sure?
Caila, rather than having to reinvent the wheel, why don’t you read my reply (#2), written about this time last year?
That was sure enough for ME.
