Guide Review - "Cat Book," by Emily Eve Weinstein
"Cat Book" is a great little book. You'll want to pick it up again and again; if only to gaze at the gorgeous art work. Weinstein used a technique called "monoprint" to create the art, which is accomplished by painting first on glass, laying paper over the wet paint, and rubbing with a wooden spoon to transfer the paint. As she described, the result is almost as unpredictable as cats themselves. The book is written entirely in the present tense, which made me feel as if I were sitting in the living room with the cats in question. The author has inserted subliminal reminders about spaying and neutering, rescue, and other animal advocacy matters, which make for enlightenment along with an absorbing read.
