The Only Solution to the Overpopulation Problem

This week marks the eighth annual Spay Day USA , sponsored by the Doris Day Animal League .

Shelters throughout the United States are aiming toward a "no-kill" policy, led by the outstanding example of the San Francisco SPCA. Millions of dogs and cats are killed every year at animal shelters, and the ONLY real solution to this problem is the spaying and neutering of family pets. To achieve this goal, animal lovers and webmasters throughout the world are embarking on a promotion to educate and increase awareness of the importance of spaying and neutering. The number of cats resulting from one unspayed female can reach an astounding number in a short period. Obviously, these cats will not survive--they are the ones dumped by the side of the road, abandoned in parks or taken to a "shelter" for disposal. If unbelievable numbers don't break your heart, perhaps the story of one gray cat will. We have been a nation of throwaway pets, but the tide is turning.

You can find more reasons TO spay and neuter than excuses NOT TO spay and neuter. In fact, many veterinarians are now advocating spaying and neutering at an early age for several health reasons. You can do several things to be part of the solution:
