Pet Airways Provides Main Cabin Accomodations for Cats and Dogs:
Pet Airways found a need and filled it. The problem of transporting pets long-distance was twofold:
- Pets traveling alone had to be shipped in the cargo area of planes.
Extreme temperatures in the "belly" of an airplane was dangerous. In some cases, heatstroke and/or death was the result. - Travel with human companions in the cabin was cramped and uncomfortable.
Only cats and small dogs could be accommodated in an under-the-seat carrier.
Pet Airways developed a new concept of an airliner with pet-only accommodations, with cats and dogs traveling in the main cabin, complete with a flight attendant.
How Pet Airway Works:
- You deliver your cat to the Pet Lounge in the Airport two hours prior to the flight.
Pet Airways provides airline-approved carriers for the trip. Overnight lodging is available for pets delivered up to 72 hours prior to the flight. - A Flight attendant cares for the dogs and cats on-board
Each "pawsenger" is checked every 15 minutes. - You (or your representative) pick up your cat at the destination airport.
If there will be a delay, the pet can be boarded overnight in the PAWS lodge.

Pet Airways is testing its wings in five major U.S. cities and urban areas:
- New York
- Washington D.C.
- Chicago
- Denver
- Los Angeles
Ideal Transportation for Cat Breeders
I can see a built-in market for cat breeders who are willing to ship their cats to buyers across the country. Members of the cat fancy who routinely show several cats at a time at major cat shows will find this a convenient way to handle the transportation of those cats. They can book themselves into commercial flights at the same airports, and collect their cats upon arrival.I can see definite possibilities for shipping my own cats, should a future distant move necessitate it. It will be interesting to follow this innovative method of air transportation for cats.
