In addition to "Core Vaccines", in 2006, Non-Core vaccine protocols were recommended by the American Association of Feline Practitioners.
Non-Core Vaccines
- Chlamydophila felis aka "Chlamydia."
Read the AAFP Protocols for the use of this vaccine. - Feline Bordetella
May be recommended for cats at specific risk, e.g. shelter outbreaks. - Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV)
Should be restricted to cats at high risk, such as outdoor cats, and cat in managed feral colonies.
Vaccines Not Generally Recommended:
- Feline Infectious Peritonitis (FIP)
Lianne McLeod, DVM, writes: "The routine use of this vaccine is questionable, largely because the vaccine is only useful against cats not previously exposed to coronavirus." - Feline Giardia
The Giardia vaccine is a controversial topic, but is generally not recommended on the basis that its effectiveness has not yet been proven
