Why I Became a Volunteer

My family have always been involved with helping animals, birds and other species. It is as natural as breathing and my passion for feline rescue has evolved over the past forty years. Now it also includes educating, re-homing as well as fostering and adoption. The plight of the abandoned felines has not diminished, sadly it has grown due to the economic woes. Although I can't save them all, I am satisfied to save them, one at a time. Make a Difference. Spay or Neuter and Save a Life.

Thank you for this wonderful place to read, share and learn about cats.

How I volunteer

After many years of cat rescue, I started a non profit group called Kittenaide in October of 2002.The Kittenaide Program raises funds at yard sales, flea markets and benefits. I screen all applicants for adoption. All cats 5 months and older are spayed or neutered before adoption. I have added a re-homing as well for those in need of finding a home for the family pet due to illness, moving or death. This is a seven day a week involvement. I have foster homes as well as my own home. I carry out all aspects of running a shelter for cats. My vet is close by and I visit his clinic six days a week. I do all advertising, pickup items for the sales, do the shopping and even make bi-weekly trips to the local landfill. Of course my favorite time is the petting and cuddling and the soft purrs of contentment from the feline residents.

Advice

  • There is a great need to educate the young regarding proper pet ownership.
  • Please spay and neuter your pets. The cost is minimal compared to the years of love and devotion they give to you.
  • Volunteering for an animal shelter will help build your compassion and patience abilities. You will provide a much needed service for those who can't speak.
