How I Came to Love Black Cats
The first cat I remember as being truly MINE was when I was in 4th grade. It was a black male and a white female. I was into Shakespeare at the time, so the pair became Romeo and Juliet. I don't know whatever happened to Juliet, but Romeo became my constant companion. He was so loving and always knew when I was down. He would find a way into my room when I was crying and I don't know how he knew I was crying or how he ever got into the room with the door closed, but he found a way. He was my mom's hero when, after being hit by a car, he came army-crawling to the house to be taken care of.
How Black Cats Differ from Other Cats
Black cats have the same qualities as other cats, but what stands out and separates them from the rest of the pack is that dark black coat that shines and gives them an aura of mystery. Their eyes (regardless of color) shine brighter than cats of other coats, because the black color sets them off. Yes, black cats get a bad 'rap' because of the witch/evil thing; maybe that's why some of us have them--just to prove they're not "evil". I feel special when I have a black cat and more and more of my acquaintances are getting black cats. My female black cat was a sort of ambassador for black cats when I introduced a new friend to her. My new-found friend was deathly afraid of black cats (that old superstition thing). She finally noticed that my black cat was just like any other cat...loving, kind, and purring. If anything, my black cat was patient with my friend while my friend got adjusted to her. After awhile, the two became close buddies and my friend never again disparaged black cats.
