When, Where and How I Got My Devon Rex Cat
I got my Devon from a reputable breeder here in Brussels, Belgium. I made my research first and visit few. He was the only one available out of a two kittens litter. Although Devon Rex are very healthy cats they tent to have the higher rate of death at birth. It is very strange but that's how has been explained to me. Frodo was 3 months old when he came to live with us and he has grown healthy as we expected but not much in size. This is another characteristic of the breed they tent to be fairly small cats when they get mature.
I'd Describe My Cat As…
Frodo has a personality of a monkey! He literally use his paws just like we use our hands! He's affectionate, inquisitive, funny, talkative, curious ... he follows me around all the time supervising every move I make. He also loves to sleep and I have to say this little guy can sleep a lot! Loves my laps, my neck and his basket. Love the heat. The heaters in the house are a great hot benches for him! He also love to kiss me holding my cheeks with his paws and pushing his nose on my face. He just melts my heart away! He gets bored of the same game and toys so I have to shift them around and never play with the same objects more than one day at the time. For this reason I don't know if he would enjoy to be trained. He doesn't like repetitions but maybe other Devons are different.
He never had any health problem. I neutered him at seven and half months. I wanted to wait a little longer but he started to spray urine so I brought him to the Vet. The surgery went well and after one day of grogginess he was completely recovered.
Due to my cat allergies I have never be able to experience the joy of having a cat around me. Frodo is my first true cat experience and I love, love this little guy so much that it almost hurts! He conquered my heart from the start and I never had to suffer a sneeze or watering eyes or hives with him. I recommend this breed to anyone even to people declaring themselves to be dogs lovers only! They would certainly change their mind about cats with a Devon Rex.
Advice
- Devons are one person cats. They are people person but they only LOVE one. You must keep this in mind before you get one because if you are in a relationship your partner is going to become jealous but also you might find your cat completely in love with your partner or any other person in the house and ignoring you most of the time even if you were the one to take him home.
- If you don't have a lot of time to spent with your Devon than you better get a pair to keep each other company. They don't like to be left alone for long periods. They do well also with dogs.
