When, Where and How I Got My Cat

I took in a stray, pregnant Calico who I named Patches in 2003. She was extremely malnourished, fur saturated with mud and car oil, and she had several wounds on her body. She had a beautiful healthy litter but sadly, Patches passed away. I adopted one of her daughters, Kilala who was solid white at birth but months later began to show characteristics of a Siamese. She was the runt of the litter, staying about the size of a pop can for almost 6 months. Kilala is still only 6 lbs but several vets have declared her as healthy as can be. She's been in my life for 8 years now.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

Crazy. She is definitely a spaz. Kilala will have very playful moods where she will chase me through the house and play tag, softly tapping her paw on me then running off. She knows several tricks including "sit", "lay down", "high five" "low five", "up" and "sit pretty". She can open any drawer, cabinet, container, you name it! Kilala loves empty boxes, especially ones that had 12 cans of pop in them. She will hide in them and run full force inside the box which is quite a sight to see- a box weaving around the furniture and down the hall!

Kilala has very sensitive skin and a sensitive stomach. I've had to change her cat food several times throughout the years until I finally found one that her stomach agrees with. I can't use liquid flea repellent on her neck or she will develop a rash and certain cat shampoos also give her a rash so I stick to using Dawn dishsoap and Sargeants. She will puke if she is nervous or stressed and she has separation anxiety.

Advice

  • Cats are amazing creatures and wonderful pets. Please consider adopting from a shelter instead of buying from a store or a breeder because so many millions of cats and kittens are destroyed every year due to overpopulation. Don't be fooled-runts make some of the best pets so don't listen when people say that runts will be unhealthy or die quickly.
