When, Where and How I Got My Cat

My young cat had been missing for 2 1/2 months when someone responded to a "lost" ad of mine. Got to their house- wasn't mine. They tell me how he had come all the way down the block going door to door, walking on sidewalks only. When he got to their door, they let him in. About 9mo old. It was me or the pound. Melted by the story, I took him home. Named him Hobo. He sat on my lap & didn't make a sound the whole way home. Just looked at all the other cars going by,seemed anxious to see his new home. He follows me everywhere, but doesn't get in the way. He understands all I say- and listens when told.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

Human. Acts just like me. Hates to be loved on in front of others(people or animals), is a big love muffin when it's just me. Communicates without talking. Sensitive; gets embarrassed, has a temper, wants attention(just don't touch too much), stubborn sometimes, possessive with his toys. He's a boy- territorial, fights to look proud afterward, brings me gifts-acts all hurt if I don't like them, gets jealous- insists on sitting between me & my boyfriend. I thought this pitbull was going to bite me one day in my driveway, and Hobo comes out of nowhere & whooped the dogs butt- it was great- my hero! He walked so proud afterward too. He's my best friend/son. Wouldn't change him if I could. He loves mornings- I don't. He does express his anger well- but so do I.He's always been real healthy too. I know he's not purebred, but he fits every characteristic. No he's not a tabby! Very tall, oyster/circle on his sides, his voice sounds more like a catfish or a duck than a cat (when he makes noise), smart. His fur is just slightly longer than most.

Advice

  • Treat like you would a person. Level with them. Don't assume they can't understand- you are their school. Give lots of love eyes (the squint). Allow them space to do whatever- they'll follow you close. Close them in/lock them out- they can hold a grudge like you wouldn't believe, talk back, knock things down, guilt trip- no joke. All my boy wants is to be an equal, which he deserves. At 18, he's still got my back, little more affectionate now, acts exactly like me- the good and the bad.

Hobo sure looks like a DSH classic tabby to me.
