Best Characteristics of the Tuxedo

Tuxedo cats are my favorites! I have found them to be "mama's boys" - very loving, they like to cuddle with me in bed and be carried around like babies with their paws on my shoulder.

Most Challenging Characteristics of the Tuxedo

They are good kitties, but sometimes very demanding of attention. TC insists on sitting on my lap while I'm in the bathroom...not good. Sometimes it's just a little too much togetherness!

When, Where and How I Got My Tuxedo

I adopted TC from the Animal Friends of Barbour County, WV, at a PetsMart adoption event in Uniontown, PA. He was about 8 weeks old when I adopted him. I fell in love with his little face and could not leave him there in that cage.

I'd Describe My Cat As…

TC has been such a joy. He is playful and cuddly and lovable. I lost another tuxedo, Domino, 3 weeks after adopting TC, and TC took to sleeping in my arms just like Domino used to. It's like he knew how much I missed Dommie and wanted to comfort me. TC also loves my Wii Fit, chasing the cursor around on the TV screen. He is getting his exercise too!

I have had a lot of cats (and still do), and I believe tuxedos have the best personalities. The four that I have had (all boys) have been the sweetest kitties and the ones that hurt the most when they go to the Rainbow Bridge. Boots was with me for 15 years, and Domino for 10. Boots also came from a humane society. I picked him up and he clung to me for dear life. I couldn't put him back in the cage, so he went home with me and was my boy. Boots lived a long, wonderful life before succumbing to chronic bowel disease. Domino was rescued off the street at 4 weeks old and was a suckler. He suckled on my arm every night in bed. Amazingly, TC is also a suckler, but he suckles on his own leg! Domino was always a little sickly and I lost him at age 10 last summer from acute renal failure. Sweet Pea is now 7 years old and loves to be vacuumed! I will always have a soft spot in my heart for tuxedo kitties.

Advice

  • Give them lots of attention
  • Don't adopt a tuxedo if you want an aloof cat - they are the friendliest cats around
  • Don't adopt a tuxedo if you don't want the cat in your bed - mine sleep under the covers with me!
  • Do adopt a tuxedo if you want lots and lots of unconditional love!!
