Name, Gender, and Age of your Cat When Adopted

Parker (a.k.a. Nosy Parker) Male approx. 1 year old

Your Cat's Age Now, or Age When Deceased?

He is just a few months older now.

How I Came About to Adopt This Cat

I had to surrender my beautiful tuxedo cat Oliver to the SPCA at 11 years old. It broke my heart but I was in the hospital for long stays at a time and he just could not adjust.

When I finally got out last year, I started fostering cats from the SPCA. I had several special cats I socialized and I agreed to take Parker (Peanut SPCA name). When we opened his cage he climbed up the cages absolutely terrified. When I got him home he spent 3 weeks behind the armoire, I had never seen a cat so thin or smell so bad.

He gradually relaxed and started to play. He is so gentle and he really won my heart.

Why I Think my Cat Deserves This Title

He deserves to win because his short life has been very stressful. After about 3 weeks of taking me over, he fell off the 2nd story balcony and ran away and hid. I face a courtyard with lots of shrubs and I would go out twice a day calling him. After 10 days and many posters around the neighbourhood, one of my neighbours called at 10:30 at night to say he was sitting below the balcony looking up. I went out with some food but couldn't find him. The next night the girl on the other side of me knocked on the door at 9:30 p.m. and told me he was sitting under my balcony.

I found him in the bushes and it took me about hour, a pint of blood, and dry cat food every few feet to get him to the apartment bldg. door. He ran up the stairs into our hallway and I opened the apt. door and he shot in.

I figured it would take another 3 weeks for him to come out, but within a few minutes he came out to rub my legs and then check out his food dishes.

Ever since his excursion he has become a a happy content cat and still young enough that he has his nutsy's and tears around this small apt. as if possessed.

When I'm in the kitchen or walking down the hall I get soft little paw pats on my legs. Every 15 minutes or so he comes meowing and looking for me.

After my severe illness and giving up my baby Oliver, he is just what I needed. We need each other and he looks at me with such trust and love in his eyes I just love him. I do remind him constantly that he is the only cat I've ever paid for and if he's not good I'll ask for a refund.

He will have a very pampered life (which he thinks is his due) and I will commit to being his slave as long as he deems.

Advice

  • I would advise to foster a few cats first until you find the right fit and temperment for your household. It's hard not to fall in love with all of them ( I still keep in touch with one lady that adopted my foster cat). Just remember you are doing a good thing for an abandoned, wounded or stray cat by giving them a safe and nuturing home until someone takes them as their forever pet.
